About Me

My photo
Juan Rodas
I create surreal and fantasy cityscapes reconstructed from the architecture of urban settings such as Baltimore, New York, and Washington D.C. These drawings are rendered to convey a dream-like setting in either black and white or with a subtle use of color using graphite or digital media. These settings mostly depict the wandering individual quietly observing the world around her as a scientist investigates the natural world. My work explores ideas that I have come across through skeptical and scientific literature. For the past 6 years I have been interested in these subjects and aim to contribute to the skeptical communities through my work. At the same time I have been influenced by the dream and fantasy literature of Jorge Luis Borges and Salman Rushdie. Through these authors I learn to embrace the absurdity of the imagination without loosing myself to irrational superstition.
